Overview:

Established in 1991, WINGS supports families in their efforts to live violence-free by providing professional and compassionate services. This support includes providing safe shelter and advocacy for victims within the community; empowering victims to gain self-sufficiency; as well as the provision of education for victims and the community regarding domestic violence.

WINGS is a state-certified shelter that provides a range of services including a twenty-four hour crisis line, legal advocacy, weekly support groups, and monthly family activities for our primarily rural seven-county service area (Laurens, Bleckley, Dodge, Johnson, Telfair, Wilcox, Wilkinson). WINGS also operates a six apartment transitional housing program which allows clients to live independently but with greater supportive services and lesser economic burdens than traditional housing.

The goal of WINGS’ services is to empower people to make their own decisions regarding their lives. WINGS provides information, encouragement, and support with the intention of enabling victims to provide a safe and stable environment for themselves and their children.

In addition to providing direct services for victims, WINGS also advocates for increased awareness and positive changes in public attitudes, so that the community will become more receptive to the needs of victims as well as intolerant of abuse.
